WELCOME TO KRAZY WOMEN WALKING
WELCOME TO KRAZY WOMEN WALKING
We hope to touch your heart and inspire you to donate $1/mile. Your $41 donation, multiplied by many, can raise the 1.5 million dollars needed to build a women's shelter in Kendall County, Texas.
Back Ground
Efforts to build a women's shelter in Kendall County formally began in 2005 with the formation of a non-profit organization, Kendall County Women's Shelter (KCWS).
In 2007, Kendall County Commissioners agreed to lease land for a $1 per year to KCWS if the organization could raise $1,500,000 for construction costs plus two years of operating funds. According to the agreement, construction must begin by September 2010 and be completed by September 2011.
Why Walk 41 Miles in One Day?
In June 2009 Dina Puleo and Cindy Arledge joined the KCWS Fundraising Committee to help plan the Kick Off Party at the Don Strange Ranch held on September 26, 2009.
The event was well attended and raised over $65,000 but Dina and Cindy realized that something big needed to happen to raise the funds within the allotted time frame.
Dina's passion is helping others break the cycle of abuse. "I've always wanted to do a sojourn to raise the public's awareness of domestic violence and to unite communities to stop the cycle of violence," said Dina.
Cindy's passion is helping others GRIPP life; living gratefully, responsibily, intently, persistently and patiently. "Some people think the current economy will prevent us from raising the necessary funds to build this shelter, and I don't agree." said Arledge.
After reading Paul Orberson's book Something Good's Gonna Happen Cindy realized that Paul's idea of "multiplying people" could be utilized as a way to raise funds.
A crazy idea was born. Four women would walk a 41 mile loop through the county to raise funds for the women's shelter requesting $1/mile sponsorship. When 36,585 people donate $41 the shelter will become a reality.
"We changed the spelling to Krazy in honor of Kendall County" said Puleo. "Any way you spell it, most people think we are Krazy to make this walk" said Arledge.
